lol asked:

Ok, I am about to buy 2003 Mitsubishi Montero Sport LS 4WD 4D Sport Utility which has about 29000 miles on it and price is at $15000.

(1) Is it a good deal?
(2) I am buying it from carmax and I checked car history report and it looks cleal, can I trust carmax? OR do I need to take it to my local mechanic to have him check it?

Guys - thank you very much for your answers, I really appreicate it!!!!

How much time does "insufficient credit history" usually imply?

Our car was repossessed. If we pay fees and get it back, do we still end up with a repo hit on our credit? Is it still possibly to get a car financed?

Looks like a good deal. Yes you can trust Carmax. They have a great warranty and look the cars over very carefully. Keep in mind its a used car and can have some problems that however does not mean they will not take care of them. Good luck.

i sell used cars and that seems like a good buy,you did the research and came up clean,I would say go for it.

Mitsu has poor quality with Engine and transmission.Better off with Toyota.

I’ve heard good things about Car max and that sounds like a good deal to me even though I’m not expert on prices on cars but remember that when you buy a used car it may have some problems with it and watch out for them. It’s better to buy new ones if you can but I’d go for that deal in the meantime. Just test drive it before you buy it and take it to a mechanic to make sure there’s nothing wrong with it.

If car history report looks clean, go for it.

Compare value of vehicles at the following offician website(s)

Is Carmax Ok? Carmax is just like any other dealership. Use the same caution as a regular dealership.

Your worst enemy is yourself if you go as an uneducated consumer. DO YOUR HOMEWORK and then decide!!!

Sad thing is, you will never know for sure. Buying a used car is tricky. People will lie and cheat to get someone to buy it. I think it is way too high priced. Did you look it up on kellybluebook.com to see what it’s really worth? If you were to trade it in at a dealership they would only give you $5000. for it, so if your going to buy it, buy it for the long haul.

well i would say $15k is a fair deal. and when dealing with carmax, i have bought 2 cars from them and wouldnt hesitate purchasing another. they have a rigorous inspection that the cars go through before they actually place them “for sale.”
So i say do it! if thats the car you want, go for it.

it is a good deal and you can trust them

A four year old car with 29000 miles on it? I would not pay half of the new sticker price for it.

Carmax is overpriced. Mitsubishis are unreliable.

For $15K, you’d be better off with a 2000 Lexus RX, 2002 Toyota Highlander or 2003 Honda Pilot.

This is a much better choice, available at Carmax (they deliver from all over the country):

i own a repair shop, and always have any car you buy or are going to buy checked out real good, even car-max can over look something, and its real important to know all you can about a car before you buy it,finding things out after you buy It isn’t good,i hope this help, your getting a fair deal on it also, good luck with it.

I would not listen to those that say Mitsubishi is unreliable. I leased a new 2003 Montero Sport limited. I had it for 36 months and it was one of my favorite vehicles. It was comfortable, very reliable, I loved it. $15,000 is a good deal and that is low miles for a 4 year old vehicle. I would still take it to a mechanic, just to me extra safe, but Carmax has an excellent reputation. I currently have a 2003 Mitsubishi Montero Limited 20th Anniversary which I also love and which has been nothing but great so those who say the brand isn’t reliable probably aren’t speaking from personal experience.

It sounds like a smokin’ deal. The annual mileage is low, you’re way below book and I wouldn’t waste any time.

Carmax is a very trustworthy outfit.

As for Mitsubishi’s, some have had trouble, but we had a 95 Galant we put 255,000 miles on with the original motor and other than a transmission and A/C compressor along with routine maintenance, it was very reliable.
